Earth Day and Spring Time

It is finally spring and here in Florida it feels like summer already. Hopefully, everyone has adjusted to the time change, are enjoying more time outside in the evenings. Some of our favorite outside activities include gardening, camping fishing and boating. Even if you are just out on your front porch and watching the neighbors pass by, that is a great way to spend some quality time outside.

In many classrooms, students are learning about plants and plant life cycles in the spring. This ties in well with Earth Day. Students enjoy writing about what they would do to save the earth. We talk about recycling and re-purposing items, and we plant flowers.

Some of my favorite children's books about Earth Day are I Am Earth: An Earth Day Book for Kids by James McDonald and Rebecca McDonald. The Adventures of an Aluminum Can: A Story About Recycling by Allison Inches and Mark Chambers, and This Is Our World: A Story About Taking Care of the Earth by Emily Sollinger and Jo Brown.

Happy Earth Day!!
